Almost all memories with mother are joyful and they are what  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">connect Futh, the hero of the novel, to life. Especially the lighthouse, which can be  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">regarded as a concretized form of beautiful memories with the mother, functions as a  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">source and energy of life for him. Still, it is the unbearable memories, the memories of  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">loss and abandonment, the memories of betrayal that gradually lead him to death and  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">dominate his life. It might be argued that Futh was already dead and buried in  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">memories as his absence is not noticed by others. He is abandoned and betrayed by a  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">mother and a wife, who, in Futh’s eyes, would hopefully replace the absent mother. In  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">short, Futh’s life as narrated in the novel is nothing but an account of memories,  </span> <span style="text-align:justify;font-family:’Times New Roman’, serif;font-size:14px;">mostly tragic, which dominate his life and prevent Futh from living in a sense. </span> <br /> </p>}, number={13}, publisher={Tekirdağ Namık Kemal Üniversitesi}
