TY - JOUR TT - The possibilities for ıncreasing the mohair yield and the quality for the selection based on face covering effects of Angora goats AU - Öztürk, Aziz AU - Örkiz, Mehmet PY - 1990 DA - June JF - Lalahan Hayvancılık Araştırma Enstitüsü Dergisi PB - Uluslararası Hayvancılık Araştırma ve Eğitim Merkezi Müdürlüğü WT - DergiPark SN - 1016-877X SP - 57 EP - 68 VL - 30 IS - 1 N2 - The fineness of fibers, the percentage of stretched lenght, strenght, fibre lenght, ondulation, the percentage of staple and medullated fiber of mohair for the covered face and open face Angora goats were recorded as 38.41 ± 0.60 and 39.81 ± 0.53 microns, 29.68 ± 0.45 and 29.98 ± 0.42 %, 20.82 ± 0.61 and 21.78 ± 0. 70 g, 17.63 ± 0.28 and 17.55 ± 0.33 cm, 7.73 ± 0.18 and 7.24 ± 0.19 number, 0.33 ± 0.10 and 0.53 ± 0.13 %, 0.50 ± 0.17 and 0.53 ± 0.16 % respectively. Variation between the groups was not significant for the criteria related to mohair quality. Kidding rates were found to be 86 % for covered face goats and 90 % for open face goats. No significant variation was observed between the groups in respect to birth weights of kids, live weights at 6 months of age, and 1 age the yields of mohair. The number of covered face Angora goats should be in creased in the flock to get higher mohair yield.
