Bumakalede amacımız, tarihî-sosyolojik ve teorik-felsefî perspektifleri terkip ederekteknoloji tartışmasının bu boyutuna dikkat çekmek, Protestan cephenin din-içi ve-dışı rakipleri olarak Katolik ve Müslüman aydınların teknolojiye yaklaşım tarzlarınıkarşılaştırmaktır. XIX. asırda Protestanlık, Sanayi Devrimi ile modernleşmeninzirvesine çıktıktan sonra medeniyeti ilerleme kavramı ile ikame etti ve yakınve uzak ötekisi olarak Katoliklik ile İslam'ı ilerlemeye engel oldukları ithamıylabertaraf etti. Ancak bu ortak Protestan ithama karşı Katolik ve Müslüman aydınlarıncevapları, evrensel-radikal ve tikel-ideolojik olarak değişti. Katoliklik, ProtestanBatı'nın yakın (din-içi) ötekisi olduğu için çağımızda Katolik veya Katolikliktenmülhem aydınlar, Katolikleştirmek gibi ideolojik saplantılara düşmeden Protestanlığınilerlemeyle özdeşleştirdiği modernliğin ürettiği teknolojiyi insan fıtratınıtahrip ettiği gerekçesiyle kökten eleştirmişlerdir. Ancak Protestan Batı'nın uzak(din-dışı) ötekisi olarak İslam'a yönelttiği ilerlemeye karşıtlık ithamı, özellikle sömürge-mağduru Müslüman ülkelerin aydınlarını Katoliklik eleştirmenlerin yaptığıgibi teknolojiyi fıtrîleştirme yerine klasik misilleme düsturuyla İslamîleştirmegibi bir ideolojik, yanılsamalı kaygıya sevk etmiştir.Anahtar kelimeler: Medeniyet, ilerleme, teknoloji, kültür savaşı, Katoliklik, Protestanlık,İslam, apolojetik.
