It is obvious that the appropriate leadership are essential for safety at sea. In literaturereview, innotivation in academic and health domains by positive and negative role models depending onregulatory focus was investigated. This research study targets leader and leader candidate seafarers and usesrandomsampling methods. Data were collected from 200 students of ITU Maritime Faculty and 40 master(leader) seafarers working in the Shipping companies. Data were gathered online through Qualtrics. 6different types of questionnaires were applied. SIP, a hypothetical role model text describing the event ofthe leading seafarer was presented. Role model evaluation, participants were asked to rate how happyunhappy, successful-unsuccessful they thought the leader was and how positive-negative the leadershipexperience of the role model was and how much they aspired to be like this role model. MTL has threesubscales: affective, noncalculative, social-normative. Regulatory focus is composed of two subscalesassessing prevention and promotion focus. FOL has 16 items that comprised of a list of possible negativeconsequences of leadership. Finally, 7 demographic questions were asked and scales compared accordingto demographics. relationships between factors were assessed by correlation analysis Bivariate correlationanalysis was used to determine relations between scales and multiple linear regression analysis was used todetermine the factors affected the MTL and FOL. Backward variable selection used to determine thesignificant parameters. It is seen that, MTL is affecting promotion focus and FOL. FOL is affectingprevention focus and MTL.
