N2  - Although few in number, there have been Armenians in Austria sincethe XVI. century. The first incomers promoted the cause of an independentArmenia and looked for support, whereas the later ones came mostly forbusiness and settled especially in Vienna. Because of their service to the Houseof Habsburg during and after the First Siege of Vienna, the sympathy towardsthe Armenians increased in Austria. The increase of Armenians in Austriaaccelarated with the settlement of catholic Armenians, also known as theMechitarists, at the beginning of the XIX. century. Even though thisacceleration came to a standstill with the I. and II. World Wars, Armeniansstarted to arrive and settle in Austria again after the II. World War. This articlegives information about the work of the Armenians who lived and are currentlyliving in Austria, and introduces the communities and organizations they formed. Further, their meetings and other activities are mentioned, which have the goal to promote the emigration in 1915 as a ‘genocide’.
