N2  - This paper aims to analyze the status of Şerif Mardin in the history of Turkish  political thought. Mardin is one of the leading founders of social sciences in  Turkey. In this respect, he has a deep impact on Turkish social sciences both on  theoretical perspective and scientific tradition. Mardin has framed an alternative  paradigm dealing with history of modernization in Turkey, following the  impact of liberal-humanitarian and enlightenment tradition. In this view, his  program of study reveals substantial diversity from the discourse of ?etatist-elitist?  tradition in Turkey.
