Değişikgörünümler alabilen tahripçilik çeşitli nedenlerle ortaya çıkabilir.Tahripçiliğin nedenlerinden birinin tahripçinin bazı kişilik özellikleri vegüdüleri olduğu, diğer bir nedenin de çevrenin bazı özelliklerinin olduğu önesürülmektedir. Tahripçiliğin açıklanmasında, bireyin algılanan adalet düzeyi vealgılanan denetim düzeyi belirleyici rol oynuyor gibi görünmektedir.
