The first was teaching vocabulary by means of maintenance rehearsal while the other method involved exercises. The data were obtained from 51 primary school students in Çanakkale. Two groups of students were formed to constitute control group and experimental group. The control group was given word definitions only while experimental group was given word definitions and instructed to do some vocabulary exercises during four weeks. Results from first pre-test, given to determine students’ knowledge of new words, did not reveal any significant differences between groups.
