Substrat seçiminde tabanı altı farklı bölüme ayrılmış ve her bölümde farklı substrat olan altıgen şekilli cam akvaryum kullanılmıştır. Yaklaşık 3 aylık 10 adet kerevit (30±0,2 mm total boy) akvaryuma bireysel olarak yerleştirilerek 24 saat boyunca gözlemlenmişlerdir. Her bir substratta geçirilen süreler kaydedilmiştir.
