KW - John Searle KW - biyolojik doğalcılık KW - yapay zeka KW - dilin oluşumu KW - dil-bilinç ilişkisi N2 - Searle, as a naturalist thinker, argues that consciousness cannot be studied solely by the external behavioral method, and that consciousness differs from other natural phenomena (observable phenomena) in this character. For although, according to him, consciousness is not a unique being or does not have metaphysical properties like other natural phenomena, this does not overshadow the fact that it has a special character. As a matter of fact, the fact that states of consciousness cannot be examined with an external behavioral method excludes the mechanistic views of consciousness; and the fact that these phenomena are the result of some of the more basic functions of the brain excludes the dualistic views of consciousness from Searle’s approach on this issue. The acceptance of consciousness as a subjective phenomenon that is not identical with the brain forces us to find an answer to the question of what consciousness is, which Searle describes as “the basic functions of the brain”. One of the ways to consistently put forward Searle’s explanation of consciousness in a naturalistic perspective is that he has developed a view about language suitable for this explanation. The idea that the uniqueness of human consciousness cannot be modelled through strong artificial intelligence implies that language, which has intensive connections with consciousness, is also human-specific. For this reason, putting forward Searle’s approach about language and the relationship between language and consciousness will make the reason for his opposition to the artificial intelligence theory understandable within the framework of the formation and character of language. This study aims to reveal the consistency of the idea that the ontological distinction that Searle assumes on the basis of his rejection of the strong artificial intelligence theory is essentially due to the specificity of consciousness and language to the human being.
