Bunlar, yanmaboyunca oluşan büyük oranlardaki baca gazı emisyonları ve küldür. Yanma sonrasıbaşlangıç kuru kütlenin yaklaşık %50’si kül olarak kalmakta ve bir çok toksik ağırmetalleri içermektedir. Böylece külün uzaklaştırılması karmaşık hale gelmektedir.Bu kül miktarını azaltmak için piroliz, yakma ve gazlaştırma işlemlerininkombinasyonu şeklinde bir çok yeni teknoloji geliştirilmiştir.
