Highway tunnels are one of the most important engineering structures that easily overcome transportation problems. This study investigates the geological and geotechnical structures of the Kırık tunnel on the Erzurum-Rize highway route, makes the rock mass classification required for tunnel excavation according to the New Austrian Tunneling Method and determines the tunnel support systems. Geological mapping, drillings, geological- geotechnical investigation based on in-situ and laboratory tests were carried out in order to reveal the physical and mechanical properties of the geological formations on the tunnel and to determine the basic data required by the project. It is divided into 4 classes on the basis of NATM Rock Classification along the tunnel axis. Rock support types related to rock classes defined as B1, B2, B3 and C2.
