Aim: The correlation between estrogen and progesterone reseptor status and conventional clinic and histopatological parameters in breast tumors was investigated.

Material and Methods: Fourty cases of which mastectomies had been performed for breast cancer were analyzed. These cases were evaluated for major histopathological parameters and immunohistochemical staining for estrogen and progesterone receptors.

Results: The positivity for estrogen and progesterone receptor was 32.5 %. Although, progesterone receptor positivity was associated better with tumor characteristics, any significant correlation was not present with histopathological parameters. Correlations between estrogen receptor positivity and 5 cm tumor diameter (p<0.05), two positive elastosis (p<0.005), perineural invasion (p<0.05) and progesterone reseptor positivity (p<0.01) were significant. Estrogen receptor positivity was associated with good tumor charactheristics more than progesterone receptor positivity.

Conclusion: In conclusion, it is possible to postulate that estrogen and progesterone receptors will help to select the optimal treatment and prolonge the survival in patients with primary breast tumors when combined with other clinical and histopathological tumor parameters.
