Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin toplanması, analizi ve yorumlanmasında nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya Trabzon ve Rize illerinde görev yapan 15 sınıf öğretmeni katılmıştır. Öğretmenlerin sözlü iletişim becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik yaptıkları çalışmaları belirlemek için öğretmenlerle yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar, öğretmenlerin dinleme ve konuşma becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik çeşitli yöntem ve tekniklere yer vermediklerini, bu becerilerin kazandırılmasında birçok sorun yaşadıklarını ve sözlü iletişim becerilerinin değerlendirilmesinde yalnızca gözlemlere yer verdiklerini ortaya koymaktadır. Bununla birlikte öğretmenlerin bu süreçte kendilerini kısmen yeterli gördükleri belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada sözlü iletişim becerilerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.</p>

<p>In this study, theaim was to determine the activities elementary school teachers did to developtheir students’ oral communication skills. Qualitative research design was usedfor data collection, analysis and interpretation in the study. 15 elementaryschool teachers in the provinces of Trabzon and Rize participated in the study.Semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to determine the activities theteachers did to develop their students’ oral communication skills. Dataobtained from the semi-structured interviews were analyzed through descriptiveanalysis. The results of the research showed that the teachers did not usevarious methods and techniques to develop their students’ listening andspeaking skills, that they experienced many problems in helping their students acquirethose skills, and that they used observation only in the assessment of oralcommunication skills. Nevertheless, it was found that the teachers consideredthemselves partially qualified in the process. Several suggestions have beenmade regarding the development of students’ oral communication skills.</p></trans-abstract>
