<p>Trends that emerge on social media platforms and quickly spread to large audiences are social phenomena that directly encompass identity construction, self-presentation, and their public perception in the digital environment. This study aims to examine how a social media trend, which gained visibility in 2025 with a photo taken while hanging on a Kızılay sign in Ankara, is interpreted by the public. The research sample consists of user comments on the most engaged posts related to the trend on the Instagram platform. Accordingly, the research was conducted using netnography, and data was collected through archival data collection techniques. The data collected within the scope of the study were analyzed within the framework of public opinion&#039;s approach to the trend; and in the context of digital self-presentation, urban identity, youth and social expectations and public sphere. The study found that the public exhibited a distanced and critical attitude towards those participating in the movement, that user comments reproduced the boundaries of urban identity and belonging, that critical discourses targeting younger generations were prominent, and that the movement was framed as a problematic form of participation in terms of the use of public sphere.</p></trans-abstract>
