Nöral Tüp Defektleri: Genetik Yaklaşım

Abstract

Sayın Editör, Balık ve arkadaşlarının, 2024 yılında derginizin üçüncü sayısında yayınlanan “Spinal Kanal Defekti Olan Yenidoğanlarda Osteopeni“ başlıklı araştırma makalesini büyük bir ilgiyle okudum. Bu mektupta, bir genetik danışmanın bakış açısıyla, makalenin daha kapsamlı bir şekilde tartışılmasına katkı sağlayacağını düşündüğüm önemli birkaç noktaya değinmek istiyorum. NTD yönetimi gebe kalmadan önce başlar ve doğumdan sonrasına kadar uzanır. Önleme stratejileri, risk faktörlerinin araştırılması, doğum öncesi tanı, doğum sonrası bakım, zamanında cerrahi müdahale ve pediatrik rehabilitasyon hizmetlerine erken katılım hakkında kapsamlı bir anlayış, anomalilerin sıklığını azaltmada ve hasta prognozunun iyileştirilmesinde katkı sağlayacak unsurlardır.

Neural Tube Defects: Genetic Approach

Abstract

Dear Editor, I read with great interest the research article by Balık et al. titled “Osteopenia in Newborns with Spinal Canal Defects” published in the third issue of your journal in 2024. In this letter, I would like to touch on a few important points that I think will contribute to a more comprehensive discussion of the article from a genetic counselor’s perspective. NTD management begins before conception and extends to after birth. A comprehensive understanding of prevention strategies, risk factor research, prenatal diagnosis, postnatal care, timely surgical intervention, and early participation in pediatric rehabilitation services will contribute to reducing the incidence of anomalies and improving patient prognosis.
