<p>Background and Aims: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of Helicobacter pylori infection on the hepatobiliary system using hepatobiliary scintigraphy with 99mTc-mebrofenin; to investigate functional changes in the biliary system and the presence of enterogastric reflux. Materials and Method: The study included 25 patients (Group 1) with dyspeptic symptoms who were Helicobacter pylori positive, 27 patients (Group 2) who were Helicobacter pylori negative, and a control group of 15 healthy volunteers (Group 3). Helicobacter pylori diagnosis was made via histopathological evaluation and/or the 14C-urea breath test. All participants underwent hepatobiliary scintigraphy with ⁹⁹mTc-mebrofenin; parameters recorded included maximal hepatic uptake time, hepatic excretion half-life, common bile duct visualization time, gallbladder visualization time, intestinal visualization time, latent period, ejection fraction (EF30, EF60), ejection period, and ejection rate. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the maximal hepatic uptake time and common bile duct visualization time values among the groups (p &amp;lt; 0.05). The maximal hepatic uptake time value was significantly prolonged in Group 1 and Group 2 compared to the control group (p = 0.004 and p = 0.010, respectively). The common bile duct visualization time value was significantly longer in Group 1 compared to Group 2 (p = 0.008). No significant differences were found between groups for the other parameters. When comparing the number of patients with abnormal parameter values, no significant difference was observed between Group 1 and Group 2. Conclusion: It was observed that hepatobiliary functions may be pathophysiologically affected in patients with dyspepsia. However, a difference was found only in the common bile duct visualization time between Helicobacter pylori positive and negative dyspeptic groups, and no significant effect was demonstrated on overall biliary functions.</p></trans-abstract>
