<p>This study aimed to identify the strategies employed by high-achieving students in mathematics in pattern generalization tasks. In accordance with this purpose, the case study method, one of the qualitative research methods, was preferred. Ten eighth-grade students with mathematics course grades of 4 or 5 were included in the study. In the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, data were collected using a worksheet designed with shape pattern tasks. Descriptive analysis was conducted with the assistance of the MAXQDA program, and the strategies identified in the literature guided the coding process. The findings revealed that students exclusively used the iterative strategy for tasks involving the near step of the pattern. However, for tasks requiring the determination of the far step, students predominantly opted for rule-based solutions.</p></trans-abstract>
