Hospitalists are physicians “whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients.” The hospitalist model is rapidly altering the landscape for inpatient care in the world. Most hospitalists are board-certified internists and some hospitalist physicians are family physicians. Although Turkey does not have a defined task for family doctors such as this.

We aim to review "hospitalist" concept and the relation to family doctors' job opportunities in the world and discuss the feasibility in Turkey

The hospitalist model offers many potential advantages. But is such a specialist area necessary for Turkey? Although the concept of ''Hospitalist'' is not used in Turkey yet.

To take an active role of family doctors in inpatient follow-up can provide a visible benefit in improving the coordination of health care services.
