<p>Aim:Thepurpose of this study is to evaluate labial frenulum types and their effects ongingival health in children living in milk and mixed dentition in and aroundBolu.Material and Methods:Thisstudy was conducted at Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University Faculty of DentistryHospital. 205 children (50.4% boys, 49.6% girls) between the ages of 3 and 16years were included in the study. 49.3% of the cases were between 3-6 years ofage and primary dentition, 50.7% of them were between 7-16 years and mixeddentition. The maxillary labial frenulum type in children was classifiedaccording to the Mirko classification and the gingival index scoring wasperformed according to the classification defined by Löe &amp;amp; Silness. Results: Therewas no statistically significant difference in maxillary labial frenulum typedistribution between genders. The most common type of labial frenulum was thegingival type in both primary and mixed dentition. There have not been seen anydifferences in labial frenulum type between primary and mixed dentition.Gingival index scores were found to be significantly higher in papillarypenetrating maxillary labial frenulum in both age groups. Conclusion:Outsidethe normal limits of the length of the frenulum may cause gingival recession, tooth malposition, tooth decay and speech problems. For this reason, it is necessary to giveimportance to the children to evaluate the frenulum during oral and dentalexaminations.</p></trans-abstract>
