Scapular glenopolar angle in shoulder dislocation cases
Abstract
Introduction: In our study, the aim was to assess the glenoid with glenopolar angle (GPA) measurements in cases with anterior shoulder dislocation and a control group.
Methods: This comparative, retrospective radiologic study compared the GPA measured on direct radiographs of patients with shoulder dislocation (Group 1) with a control group (Group 2).
Results: The GPA in Group 1 was observed to be 32.34⁰ (std. dev. 1.96), while it was 34.50⁰ (std. dev. 2.32) in Group 2 {significant difference was observed as p<0.001 (p<0.05)}.
Conclusion: The results of this study show the GPA of patients with anterior shoulder dislocation was significantly lower compared to a control group. Glenoid alignment is a possible risk factor for anterior shoulder dislocation and should be considered during assessment and management of these cases.
