Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Achillea L. Species Growing in Türkiye
Abstract
Achillea L. genus, one of the important members of the Asteraceae family, is represented in Türkiye by 53 species, 27 of which are endemic. Achillea species have been reported to be used as diuretic, and carminative, cough suppressant, wound healer, abdominal pain reliever, against menstrual pain, colds and edema, which are also associated with anti-inflammatory activity. In this review, studies on the anti-inflammatory activity of Achillea species naturally growing in Türkiye have been compiled, due to plant’s widespread traditional use in the treatment of inflammatory diseases in the country. Additionally, ethnopharmacological uses and general phytochemical contents of these species are also given. Anti-inflammatory activity studies on Achillea species growing in our country supported their ethnopharmacological use, and therefore, there is a good potential for the development of new anti-inflammatory drugs.
