This study examines the perception of the Prophet Muhammad by the Jewish community, who are part of the People of the Book, and their attitude towards him. The positive and negative reactions of the Jewish community to the invitation to Islam, from the past to the present, will be analyzed and interpreted within the framework of the Jewish mindset. In doing so, Jewish literature found in sources of polemical writing will be central and utilized as primary material. Islamic tradition sources will also be consulted during the analysis process. The two texts chosen to reveal the Jewish mentality belong to a relatively later period compared to the initial encounters between the two parties. One of the two Jewish chronicles, which will serve as the primary conceptual sources for this study, is an anonymous chronicle that emerged in 17th-century Italy. The second text is a work by Abu al-Fath al-Sâmirî. The study is conducted in the form of textual analysis, aiming to reach generalizations through the analysis and synthesis of these two texts. While doing so, the conclusions reached in other studies conducted on these texts will also be considered as part of the interpretation process and treated as a foundation for understanding.
Bu çalışmada ehl-i kitabın bir parçası olan Yahudi toplumunun Hz. Peygambere ilişkin algısı ona karşı tutumu ele alınacak, onların dünden bugüne İslam davetine gösterdikleri olumlu ve olumsuz her türlü tepki, Yahudi zihniyeti ekseninde bir okuma ve yorumlamaya tabi tutulacaktır. Bunu yaparken polemik edebiyatının kaynaklarında olan Yahudi literatürü merkeze alınacak ve kaynak olarak kullanılacaktır. Analiz sürecinde İslam geleneğinin kaynaklarına da müracaat edilecektir. Yahudilerin Müslümanlara ilişkin ortalama yargıları ve zihniyetini ortaya koymak için tercih ettiğimiz iki metin de tarafların ilk karşılaşmalarına nipetle görece daha geç döneme aittir. Çalışmamıza temel kavramsal kaynak olarak kullanılacak olan iki Yahudi kroniğinden biri, 17. Yüzyıl İtalyası’nda ortaya çıkmış yazarı bilinmeyen bir kroniktir. İkinci metin ise Ebu’l- Feth es- Samirî’ye ait bir metindir. Çalışmamız metin analizi şeklinde olup söz konusu iki metin üzerinde analiz ve sentezlere gidilecek genellemeler ulaşılmak istenecektir. Bu yapılırken söz konusu metinler üzerinde yapılmış diğer çalışmalarda ulaşılmış sonuçlar da bir anlama zemini yorumlama sürecinin parçası olarak görülecek ve değerlendirilecektir.
