This study aims to analyse the essential elements that constitute the identity of Siirt city within the framework of Kevin Lynch's urban image theory. In the study, the spatial memory of the city is analysed through the five fundamental concepts proposed by Lynch: roads, borders, regions, focal points, and sign elements. A qualitative research method was adopted, and in addition to a literature review, observation, data collection from local sources, and visual analysis methods were used. The findings reveal that spatial elements, such as Güres Street, Cumhuriyet Square, Siirt Grand Mosque, Botan Valley, and the light event in Tillo, symbolize the city's social, cultural, and historical identity. Siirt's urban identity, shaped by its historical texture, traditional architecture, and natural boundaries, has recently transformed due to modernization. However, the elements of local identity remain strongly present in urban memory. The study provides a crucial foundation for urban plan-ning, conservation, and identity oriented design approaches in this context.
Bu çalışma, Kevin Lynch’in kent imgesi kuramı çerçevesinde Siirt kentinin kimliğini oluşturan temel öğeleri analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada Lynch’in önerdiği beş temel kavram olan yollar, sınırlar, bölgeler, odak noktaları ve işaret öğeleri üzerinden kentin mekânsal belleği çözümlenmiştir. Nitel araştırma yöntemi benimsenmiş ve literatür taramasının yanı sıra gözlem, yerel kaynaklardan veri derleme ve görsel analiz yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular, Güres Caddesi, Cumhuriyet Meydanı, Siirt Ulu Camii, Botan Vadisi ve Tillo’daki ışık hadisesi gibi mekânsal unsurların kentin sosyal, kültürel ve tarihsel kimliğini simgelediğini ortaya koymaktadır. Siirt’in tarihsel dokusu, geleneksel mimarisi ve doğal sınırları ile şekillenen kent kimliği, son yıllarda modernleşme süreçleri ile dönüşüme uğramıştır. Ancak yerel kimliğe ait ögelerin hâlen güçlü bir biçimde kent hafızasında yer aldığı görülmektedir. Bu bağlamda çalışma, kent planlaması, koruma ve kimlik odaklı tasarım yaklaşımları açısından önemli bir zemin sunmaktadır.
