EFFECTS OF FISH MEAL SUBSTITUTION WITH SUPER WORM (Zophobas morio) MEAL ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF RAINBOW TROUT FINGERLINGS
Abstract
A 45 days feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary fishmeal replacement by super worm (Zophobas morio) meal (SWM) on growth performance, survival, liver, kidney and intestine histology of rainbow trout fingerlings. Fish in triplicate groups (average initial weight 1.39±0.03 g) were fed twice a day ad libitum with 4 isonitrogenous (52% crude protein) experimental feeds in which fish meal were substituted 0, 25%, 50% and 100% with SWM. A separate group of three replicates were fed with a commercial feed. Fish fed with commercial diet and %25 SWM revealed the highest values for growth performance but survival rates were variable. These results indicate that fish meal replacement with SWM up to 25% have no adverse effect on rainbow trout fingerlings and a decrease in growth parameters was obvious with increasing levels of SWM in diets.
