                                                                                                <abstract><p>Amaç:Sporla ilgilenen bireylere, dental yaralanmalardan korunabilmek için ağızkoruyucular önerilmektedir. Ancak, geçmişte dental yaralanmaya maruz kalansporcuların büyük çoğunluğunun, sportif aktiviteler sırasında ağız koruyucukullanmamaya devam ettiği rapor edilmiştir. Buçalışmada, spor lisesi öğrencilerinin, beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinin ve dişhekimlerinin ağız koruyucular hakkındaki görüşlerinin değerlendirilerek, ağızkoruyucu kullanımını etkileyen faktörlerin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.Gereçve Yöntem: Çalışma, 3 gruplu anket çalışmasıolarak planlanmıştır. Birinci grupta, spor liselerinde eğitim ve öğrenim gören14-17 yaş aralığında toplam 446 öğrenci; ikinci grupta, 58 beden eğitimiöğretmeni ve üçüncü grupta 506 diş hekimi yer almaktadır.&amp;nbsp; Hazırlanan anketler ile geçmişte yaşadıklarıspor ile ilişkili dental travma deneyimleri, acil durum prosedürleri hakkındakibilgileri, ağız koruyucu kullanımı ve ağız koruyucu tercihlerideğerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular:Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin yarısının (%49,9) yaralanma hikayesi olmasınarağmen çok az bir kısmının (%6) ağız koruyucu kullandığı belirlenmiştir. Bedeneğitimi öğretmenlerinin %77,6’sının ağız koruyuculardan haberdar olduğu ve%96,6’sının ağız koruyucu kullanımını yararlı bulduğu görülmüştür.Öğretmenlerin %87,9’u, diş hekimlerinin %67,8’i zorunlu olan spor dallarınınyanı sıra diğer spor dallarında da kullanımın zorunlu olması gerektiğidüşüncesindedir. Diş hekimlerinin %50,6’sının sporla ilgilenen hastalarına ağızkoruyucu önerdiği tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç:Sonuç olarak, sporcuların dental yaralanmalardan daha az zarar görmeleri içinağız koruyucu kullanım oranının arttırılması ve diş hekimlerinin, beden eğitimiöğretmenlerinin, öğrencilerin ve velilerin konu hakkında daha fazlaeğitilmeleri gerekmektedir.AnahtarKelimeler: Ağız koruyucu, dental yaralanma, sporcu, öğretmen, dişhekimiSPORTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’, PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS’ AND DENTISTS’OPINION ABOUT MOUTHGUARDSABSTRACTAim:Mouthguards are suggested for sports-interested individuals to protect againstdental injuries. Even so, it has been reported that the majority of theathletes who experienced dental injury in the past, continue to performsportive activities without using mouthguards. The aim of this study is; todetermine the opinions of sportshigh school students, physical education teachers and dentists aboutmouthguards, to evaluate the factorsinfluencing the use of mouthguards.&amp;nbsp;Material andMethods: The study was planned as a 3-group surveystudy. Therewere 446 sports high schoolstudents aged between14-17 years in the first group, 58 physical education teachers in the secondgroup and 506 dentists in the third group. The questionnaires were used toassess past experience of dental trauma related to sports, knowledge of relatedemergency procedures, use of mouthguard and mouthguard preferences.Results: Although half of the students who participated the study have a storyof trauma (49,9%), it has been determined that only a small percentage ofstudents (6%) use mouthguards. 77.6% of physical education teachers were awareof mouthguards and 96.6% of them found beneficial mouthguard use. About 88% ofteachers and 67.8% of dentists thought that it must be compulsory use in sportsthat are mandatory for as well as other sports. 50.6% of dentists suggest amouthguard the patients interested in sports has been determined.Conclusion: As a result, toprotect the athletes from dental trauma, mouthguard usage rates should beincreased and the dentists, physical education teachers, students and theparents need to be educated more about this subject.Keywords: Mouth guard, dental trauma, athlete,teacher, dentist</p></abstract>
