Bu çalışmada simgecilik akımının önemli şairlerinden biri olan PaulVerlaine’in şiirlerindeki göz/gözler imgesi irdelenmiştir. Çalışma verileri şairinbütün şiirlerinde geçen göz sözcüğünün bulunduğu bağlamları kapsamaktadır.Yöntem olarak eşduyuma dayalı olarak beş duyudan biri olan görme duyusununöne çıktığı gözler ve bu sözcüğün sözcüksel alanında bulunan diğer alt sözcüklerile ilgili bağlamlar ele alınarak içerik analizi ve nitel araştırma yöntemikullanılmıştır. Verlaine’in bütün şiirleri taranarak göz ve gözlerle ilgilianlatımlar içeren dizeler dikkate alınarak anlamsal ve betimsel değerlendirmeleryapılmıştır. Göz sözcüğüyle yapılan eğretilemeler ve genel olarak anlamsalboyutta neden bu sözcüğün bu kadar sıklıkta kullanıldığı saptanmayaçalışılmıştır. Şiirlerin dize örgüsü içinde gözlerin şiirlere nasıl bir boyutkazandırdığı üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu imgenin Verlaine’in şiirlerinde çok yoğunbir şekilde, sayısal olarak yetmiş kez kullanıldığı görülmüştür. Bir anlamdagörme duyusu ile algılanan her şeyi şiirine yansıtmaktadır. Gözlerin sözcük alanıiçinde bulunabilecek ağlamak, gülmek, bakmak, görmek gibi eylemler; gülen,gülümseyen, ağlayan, alaycı, güzel, kötü gibi niteleme öğelerinin bağlamlardagözlere eşlik ettiği saptanmıştır.Anahtar Sözcükler: İmge, anlam, göz, gözler, duyu, eğretileme, şiir.The aim of this study is to examine the image of eye/eyes in PaulVerlaine’s poems, who is one of the major poets of current symbolism. The dataof the research are composed of the context which includes the word eye in thewhole poems of the poet. Content analysis and qualitative research method wereused as the research method based on empathy by treating the eyes being theeyesight which is prominent among the five senses and the contexts of the otherwords in the lexical field of this word. Semantic and descriptive evaluations aremade by scanning all of the Verlaine’s poems, by taking into account the versesrelated to the eye and the eyes. The metaphors made by the word eye, and thereason why this word is used so often in semantic dimension generally have beentried to determine. It has been emphasized that the eyes in the pattern of verse ofthe poems bring how a new dimension to the poems. It was observed that thisimage was used intensively in his poems, numerically seventy times. In a sense,he reflects everything that is perceived by the eyesight to his poem. It wasdetermined that the verbs which can be found in the word field of the eyes suchas, cry, laugh, look, see; the elements of description such as, laughing, smiling,crying, sarcastic, beautiful, bad accompany to the eyes in the contexts.Key words: Image, meaning, eye, eyes, sense, metaphor, poem.
