The Results of The Bender Gestalt Motor Coordination Test and Mini Mental State Examination Test In Hemiplegic Patlenis

Abstract

Assessment of cognitive function is essential for accurate diagnosis and management in general neurological practice. Some studies of rehabhilitation of stroke patients have shown that patients with right hemisphere damage producing this type of deficit are slower in learning activities of daily living than those patients with left hemisphere involvement, One of the most widely used tests of right parietal lobe functioning is the Bender-Gestalt Motor Coordination Test, Also the Mini-Mental State Examination Test was designed to detect patienis with cognitive impairmeni amongst a psychiatric population, because it is desirable to have a standardised simpie and guick test of cognitive function which could be used routinely by the admitting physician. We report the results ol a survey of 40 hemiplegic patients between ihe ages 15 and 78 whom we studied the relationship between the clinice! parameters and Bender-Gsstalt Motor Coordination and Mini-Mental Stato Examination Tests. We çoncluded ithal age, Sex, ambulation level, etiology of the siroke, alcohol abuse did not change the results of these tesis but there was a statistically significant relationship between these tests and the education level of the patient. We also observed that the localization of the lesion didn't effect these tesis.

HEMİPLEJİK HASTALARDA BENDER GESTALT MOTOR KOORDİNASYON TESTİ VE MİNİ MENTAL DURUM İNCELEME TESTİ SONUÇLARI”*

Abstract

Kognitif fonksiyonun değerlendirilmesi genel nörolojik hastalıkların doğru teşhis ve tedavisi için gereklidir. Hemiplejik hastaların rehabilitasyonu ile ilgili bazı çalışmalar sağ hemisfer lezyonu olanların sol hemisfer lezyonu olanlara oranla günlük yaşam aktivitelerini daha yavaş öğrendiklerini ortaya çıkarmıştır. Sağ parietal lob fonksiyonunu ortaya çıkarmada en sık kullanılan test Bender Gestalt Motor Koordinasyon Testidir, Mini Mental Durum İnceleme Testi rutin olarak kullanılabilecek standardize edilmiş basit ve çabuk bir kognitif fonksiyon testi olup psikiatrik bir populasyonda kognitif bozukluğu olan hastaları ortaya çıkarmak için yapılmıştır. Çalışmada 15 - 78 yaşlar arasındaki 40 hemiplejik hastaya Bender-Gestalt Motor Koordinasyon Testi ve Mini-Mental Durum İnceleme Testi uygulanmış ve klinik parametreler ve test sonuçlarının birbirleri ile korelasyonları çalışılmıştır. Yaş, cinsiyet farkı, hastalık süresi, ambulasyon düzeyi, etyolojik faktör ve alkol kullanımının her iki test sonucunu da etkilemediği ancak eğitim düzeyi ile MMDIT ve BGMKT arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı ilişki olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca lezyonun sağ veya sol hemisferde olmasının test sonuçlarını etkilemediği gözlenmiştir.
