Preoperative Embolization of Paragangliomas

Abstract

Paragangliomas arise from paraganglionic cells. They are benign but highly vascular tumours. Therefore surgical removal may be limited. In recent years these tumours are preoperatively embolized in order to make surgical removal easier. After embolizastion total excision may be possible in a short time with insignificant blood loss. Preoperative embolization of eight paragangliomas witn Polyvinyl Alcohol was succesfully performed in our institute. The cases are presented and the technique is described here in,

PARAGANGLİOMA OLGULARINDA PREOFERATİF EMBOLİZASYON

Abstract

Paragangliomalar paraganglionik doku artıklarından gelişen benign tümörlerdir. Aşırı vasküier olduklarından cerrahi rezeksiyonları zor ve sınırlıdır. Son yıllarda cerrahi işlemi kolaylaştırmak için bu tümörlere preoperatif embolizasyon uygulanmaktadlr. Anabilim dallmrzda sekiz paraganglioma olgusuna polivinil alkol (P VA) kullanarak preoperatif embolizasyon uyguladlk. Bu yazlda olgulal' takdim edilerek teknik tammlanrmstlr. Paraganglioma olgulannda preoperatif embolizasyon yönteminin, operasyon slraslnda kanamayl önemli derecede azaltan, operasyon süresini kisaltan ve tam eksizyonu saélamaya katklsl olan bir yöntem oldugu kamslna varllmlstlr.
