This study is concerned with the morphological changes observed in rat testicular tissue following diethylstilbestrol administration. While there wasn't any change in the control group, in the light microscopic examination of the group to which diethystilbestrol was given, the most important changes observed were;
a) Atropy of the gonads,
b) Thickening of tunica albuginea,
c) Narrowing of seminiferous tubular wall and decreasing of tubuli diameters,
d) Extensive fibrosis of the peritubular tissue,
e) Marked increase in thickness and infolding of basement membrane,
f) Dissociation and desquamation of spermatogenic epithelium,
g) A gradual disappearance of spermatonic elements,
h) Structural changes of Sertoli and Leydig cells.
Consequently, after the administration of therapeutic dosage of diethylstilbestrol it was seen that the spermatogenesis was stoppedn the second phase, «Meiosis.
On the light of this study, it is believed that further investigationby means of electron microscopy should be carried out for seeing fine structure.
