Lower respiratory tract pathologies accompanying upper respiratory tract pathologies in newborns: Retrospective case series

Abstract

The upper respiratory tract is a short anatomical area extending from the nose to the larynx and is mostly composed of flexible structures with little bone support. A wide range of congenital upper respiratory tract anomalies may occur as a result of errors during embryological development. Although these congenital defects may occur in isolation, they are usually associated with disorders of other organ systems or may occur as part of a syndrome. In this study, we present the lower respiratory tract pathologies accompanying 3 cases with respiratory distress due to upper respiratory tract congenital pathologies.
