Bu çalışma, Kıbrıs Adası’nda Hıristiyan misyonerlik faaliyetlerinin toplumsal, kültürel ve dini etkilerini Türk basınında yayımlanan haberler üzerinden ele almaktadır. Çalışma, 1947-1971 yılları arasında Kıbrıs Türk toplumunun misyonerlik faaliyetlerine nasıl tepki verdiğini ve bu faaliyetlerin yerel kimlik, inanç sistemi ve toplumsal yapı üzerindeki etkilerini incelemektedir. Bu bağlamda KKTC Milli Arşiv Araştırma Dairesi’nde yapılan incelemeler sonucunda, misyonerlikle ilgili haber ve yorumların yer aldığı Hür-Söz, Nacak, Akın ve Bozkurt gazetelerinden örnekler derlenmiştir. Toplamda dört gazetenin haber içerikleri analiz edilerek misyonerlik faaliyetlerinin yerel medyaya yansımaları incelenmiştir. 1947 yılı misyonerlikle ilgili arşivdeki ilk haberi, 1971 yılı ise son haberi ifade etmektedir. Bu bağlamda, misyonerlik haberlerinin dinler tarihi, sosyoloji ve medya çalışmaları açısından değerlendirilmesi sağlanmıştır. Çalışma, dinler tarihi perspektifinden Kıbrıs Türk toplumunun dini ve milli kimlik algısını anlama noktasında Kıbrıs Türk basını kapsamında misyonerlik konusunda yapılmış ilk çalışmadır. Dönemin gazetelerinde yer alan yazılar, misyonerlik faaliyetlerinin toplumsal bir tehdit olarak algılandığını ve Kıbrıs Türk toplumunun kimliğini koruma çabalarını şekillendirdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Kıbrıs Türk toplumunun misyonerlik faaliyetleri karşısındaki tutumunu anlamaktır. Araştırma, misyonerlik faaliyetlerinin Kıbrıs Türk basını tarafından milli bir tehdit olarak yorumlanmasının arkasındaki nedenleri analiz etmekte ve bu faaliyetlerin Türk toplumunun toplumsal dayanışma ve kimlik bilincine olan etkilerini tartışmaktadır. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma, Kıbrıs Türk basınında misyonerlik faaliyetlerine yönelik eleştirilerin toplumsal anlamını ve bu eleştirilerin dönemin politik, dini ve sosyal dinamikleri üzerindeki etkisini irdelemektedir.
This study examines the social, cultural, and religious impacts of Christian missionary activities on the island of Cyprus through news reports published in the Turkish press. The study investigates how the Turkish Cypriot community responded to missionary activities between 1947 and 1971 and the effects of these activities on local identity, belief systems, and social structure. In this context, following research conducted at the TRNC National Archives Research Department, examples were compiled from the Hür-Söz, Nacak, Akın, and Bozkurt newspapers, which contained news and commentary related to missionary work. The news content of a total of four newspapers was analyzed to examine the reflections of missionary activities in the local media. The first news item related to missionary work in the archives dates to 1947, while the last one is from 1971. In this context, missionary news items were evaluated from the perspectives of religious history, sociology, and media studies. From a religious history perspective, this study is the first to examine missionary work in the Turkish Cypriot press in terms of understanding the religious and national identity perception of the Turkish Cypriot community. Articles in the newspapers of the period reveal that missionary activities were perceived as a social threat and shaped the efforts of the Turkish Cypriot community to preserve its identity. The aim of this study is to understand the attitude of the Turkish Cypriot community towards missionary activities. The research analyzes the reasons behind the interpretation of missionary activities as a national threat by the Turkish Cypriot press and discusses the effects of these activities on the Turkish community's social solidarity and identity awareness. Ultimately, this study examines the social meaning of criticism of missionary activities in the Turkish Cypriot press and the impact of this criticism on the political, religious, and social dynamics of the period.
