The word Salname derives
from the Persian language and it is consisted of two words: sal which means year and name meaning requisition or
book. Salnames were called the works that included the events of a year.
Salnames are one of the most important archival sources for the last period of
Ottoman Empire related to the socio-cultural and socio-economic resources.
Salnames were published during the period of 1847-
Throughout these years, there were included very important details from the
Ottoman Empire such as, administrative organization, institutions, the details
of personalities, scientific, economic, politic, army, cultural and other
fields. Salnames are divided into four groups: “State Salnames”, “Vilayet
Salnames “, “Ministry Salnames” and that of “Special Salnames’’. Salname of
Kosovo Vilayet was published in total eight times.
In this paper will be
talked about the Salname of Kosovo Vilayet in
there were six sanjaks (territory parts) consisting of some Kazas. Sanjak of
Pristina was part of one of these six Sanjaks of Kosovo Vilayet, in which the
Kaza of Presevo was part of it. Furthermore we will deal into details about the
Kaza of Presevo in the other parts of this paper.
