Activities to improve students' problem-solving skills are not enough inthe information age. Instead, there is a trend towards modern methods ensuringopportunity to multi-dimensional thinking. Due to this trend, students must bea creative problem solver that enables high-level thinking. It is expected thatstudent creativity will be developed through creative problem-solvingactivities. We carried out the study by sampling method with a total of 72 studentsfrom the two provinces in the Black Sea region of Turkey selected by random. Inthe study, we used the one creative problems developed by Price (2006) as datacollecting tools. In analysing the data, the solutions of applied problems wereinvestigated regardful of Mumford et al. (1991) 's creative problem solvingsteps. Content analysis of qualitative research methods was conducted in theresearch. The data obtained were submitted to the views of two experts toachieve reliability and validity of the study and correspondence percentage wascalculated. As a result of the findings, we have found out that the middle schoolstudents have some difficulties as they have faced with creative problems forthe first time. We have determined that students have difficulties in theconfiguration step of the problems, in the steps of choosing categories andencoding information.
</trans-abstract>
