<p>Therehas been a lot of emphasis on institutional variables regarding the sources ofeconomic growth. Contrary to the approximate causes of economic growth, political stability is directly or indirectly among the institutional factorsthat form the main causes of growth. There are two different views on theeffects of political stability on economic growth. According to the firstopinion; The political stability environment has an important role for economicactors to make effective decisions for the future by reducing uncertainty aboutthe future. This situation positively affects economic growth on land such asconsumption and investment. On the other hand, according to the second view, the specific institutional structures of some countries may lead to economicactivity and even economic growth in an environment of political instability bypromoting activities such as bribery, corruption and rent-seeking. In thisstudy, the relationship between political stability and economic growth wereexamined by the Panel Seemingly Unrelated Regression Method in Brazil, Russia,India, China, South Africa and Turkey based on the data for the period2002-2017. According to the results obtained, in Brazil, Russia, South Africaand Turkey, even if political stability affects economic growth positively, itsimpact is low. While there is no meaningful relationship between politicalstability and economic growth in India, the relationship between the twovariables is negative in China. These results reveal that although politicalstability is necessary in general, it is not a sufficent factor for economicgrowth.</p></trans-abstract>
