The great poet of the 18th century, Nedim is known with his Nedîmâne (Nedim like) style in the Classical Turkish poetry. He has a special place in our literature with the new images he found, his dreams and his talent in poetry. In order to colour his utterance by taking the advantage of nuances of Turkish, the poet, who also gives place to local elements along with daily life in his poems, makes use of unusual projections that take place in semantic analysis of linguistic studies. Poets often make use of unusual projections in the poetry so as to make their speech more effective. As these utterances are against wisdom and reason, they are not instances encountered in daily language but just combinations that enrich poetry. Likewise, Nedim puts these unusual projections in practice in many of his poems in an aesthetic way and with words unique to daily language. Unusual projections he included in his speech within the frame of the novelties he brought into Classical Turkish poetry promoted Nedim to the position of an influential and unique poet. In this article in the sample of the selected couplets from Nedim’s ghazals, the unusual projections, which are also accepted as semantic deviations and the contributions of these structures to the Classical Turkish poetry in general and to Nedim’s poems in a more specific sense will be examined with a linguistic approach.
