Control of the stem nematode (<em>Ditylenchus dipsaci </em>Kühn) parasitic on <em>Narcissus poetaz</em> “Cheerfulnesâ€? in the Aegean Region.

Abstract

Ornamental plant cultivation is economically important in Karaburn district of İzmir. However, stem nematode infestation has been increasing in these cultivated areas which have been continuously planted with narcissus and with the other host plants such as onions, broad bean, and artichoke. Preplanting soil applications have not satisfactorily controlled the stem nematode parasitic on the narcissus bulbs. In a series of dipping treatments the doses of 50, 100, 150, and 200 ml/hl–Nemacur 400 EC have bean used. Of the concentrations only 800 ppm have been found to be effective; however, this concentration have not been recommended due to the weak development of above ground plant parts and undeveloped young bulbs. The treatments of bulbs with hot water at 45.5^oC for 1,5 and 3 hours, at 47.5^oC for 16 minutes, and at 50^oC for 4.5 minutes after the maintenance of the bulbs in a cool chamber at 30^oC for a week have not effectively controlled the stem nematode. Control of this highly pathogenic nematode is almost impossible by means of one control method unless an integrated management model is employed. Soil applications, plant rotation, weed control, roguing, avoiding susceptible plants, planting certified bulbs, short harvesting period, controlled irrigation, and quarantine may be combined.

Öz

Nergis soğanlarındaki Ditylenchus dipsaci'ye karşı dikim öncesi toprak ilaçlamaları nematodu yeterli olarak kontrol etmemiştir. Nemacur 400 EC'nin 50, 100, 150 ve 200 ml/hl dozlarında gerek 1986 ve gerekse 1988 yılı denemelerinde hiçbir tekerrürde bulaşıklılık bulunmamıştır. Ancak gerek yaprakların çok zayıf gelişmesinin (kısa, dar, cılız) ve gerekse bu konsantrasyondaki soğanlarda yavru soğanlara rastlanmayışının fitotoksik etkiden kaynaklandığı sanılmaktadır. Sıcak su uygulaması 30°C'de bir hafta ılık depolamayı takiben 45.5°C'de 1.5 ve 3 saat; 47.5°C'de 16 dakika ve 50°C'de 4.5 dakikalık sürelerle nematodu %100 kontrol etmemiştir. Hayat devresi kısa, patojenitesi yüksek olan bu nematodun mücadelesinde hiçbir önlem tek başına yeterli olmadığından, toprak ilaçlaması; temiz toprağa temiz olduğu bilinen soğan dikilmesi; hassas bitkilerden kaçınılması; bitki nöbetleşmesi; karantina tedbirleri; yabancıot mücadelesi; söküm süresinin olabildiğince kısaltılması; çiçek zamanı tarla veya bahçenin gezilerek hastalıklı bitkilerin sökülüp yakılması; yağmur veya sel sularının bulaşıklılığı yaymasını engelleyici tedbirlerin alınması ve bu önlemlerin kombine edilmesi gerekir.
