<p>According to the ancient Egyptians, magic was perceived as a power that emerged with the creation of the universe and was employed by the divine forces to preserve the natural order. Over time, this power was regarded as a sacred gift bestowed upon humanity by the gods, transmitted first to kings, then to priests, and eventually to other individuals who possessed knowledge of magical formulae. Thus, Egyptians resorted to magic in their daily lives as a means of protection against dangers, accidents, tragic deaths, various diseases, and malevolent spirits. Similarly, in preparation for the afterlife, magical practices were employed in the process of mummification and in the preparation of objects believed to assist the deceased in the other world. This study examines the concept of magic in ancient Egypt with a particular focus on the ritual of mummification, aiming to determine whether such practices were merely symbolic or carried functional significance as well. Within this framework, the manner in which magic was shaped within the Egyptian belief system, and the roles it assumed in the mummification process, are analyzed through historical and phenomenological approaches. The findings reveal that magic in ancient Egypt was inseparably intertwined with religious belief and constituted an indispensable element of funerary rituals. Magical practices accompanying mummification are shown to have fulfilled multiple functions: preserving the physical integrity of the body, ensuring the safe passage of the deceased into the afterlife, and guaranteeing the continuity of existence beyond death. Furthermore, the enduring preservation of mummified bodies for centuries is understood to have reinforced both the continuity and the reliability of Egyptian religious convictions in the eyes of their adherents.</p></trans-abstract>
