Aim: This study aimed to determine the incidence of medical device-related pressure injuries in intensive care patients and to identify associated risk factors.Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 150 patients hospitalized in intensive care units. Data were collected using a Patient Information Form, the Braden Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment Scale, a Pressure Injury Staging Form, and a Medical Device-Related Pressure Injury Identification Form. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 27.0, including descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA with Bonferroni post hoc tests, and chi-square analysis.Results: The mean age of the patients was 64.16 ± 17.44 years; 56% were male and 68% were overweight. The mean intensive care unit stay was 8.20 ± 6.62 days, and the average Braden score was 13.24 ± 2.7. The mean hemoglobin and albumin levels were 10.27 ± 1.56 mg/dl and 0.85 ± 0.42 g/dl, respectively. Medical device-related pressure injuries developed in 28% of patients, occurring after a mean of 6.69 ± 3.29 days. Injuries were most commonly located around the mouth (66.7%) and were predominantly Stage II (40.4%). Patients who developed MDRPIs had significantly lower hemoglobin levels (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Medical device use increases the risk of pressure injuries in intensive care patients. Regular risk assessment and strict adherence to preventive nursing interventions are essential to reduce medical device-related pressure injuries incidence.
</trans-abstract>
