Effects of Video-Based Cervical Posture and Breathing Exercises on Musculoskeletal System, Pain and Emotional Stress Levels in Young Adults

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of video-based cervical posture and breathing exercises on musculoskeletal system, pain and emotional stress levels in young adults. 30 participants were randomly divided into study (n=15) and control (n=15) groups. The study group received video-based cervical posture exercises, breathing exercises, and a brochure for 8 weeks/twice a week/30 minutes per session. The control group was given only brochures. Before and after the treatment, Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire, Brief Pain Inventory, Neck Disability Index, cervical posture analysis and Perceived Stress Scale were evaluated. No significant difference was found between the groups (p>0.05). Both groups showed significant improvement in pain parameters, Neck Disability Index, posture, musculoskeletal system neck, back, waist and knee scores (p<0.05). In young adults, the selection and regular application of a personalised exercise programme may produce effective results in terms of musculoskeletal system and pain parameters regardless of the application method.
