Do Psychological Resilience and Happiness Have an Effect on Coping Behaviors with Premenstrual Changes? A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of psychological resilience and happiness on coping behaviors related to premenstrual changes. The study was designed as cross-sectional research, and the sample consisted of 187 female nursing students currently enrolled at a university. Data were collected using the Premenstrual Coping Scale (PMS-Cope), the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), and the Oxford Happiness Scale–Short Form (OHQ-SF). According to the findings, psychological resilience and happiness significantly influence coping behaviors related to premenstrual changes. Approximately 12% of the variance in coping behaviors was explained by these two variables. It was found that happiness, in particular, had a significant and positive effect on coping with premenstrual changes. Based on these results, it is recommended that nursing students' awareness regarding coping with PMS be enhanced, and that training and counseling services be provided to support the development of effective coping strategies.
