7 Ocak 1946 tarihinde kurulan Demokrat Parti, Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi’ni iktidarı döneminde en çok zorlayan ve kendisine karşı büyük oranda halk desteğini alan parti olarak değerlendirilmektedir. 1946’da kurulmasının ardından CHP’ye karşı etkin bir muhalefet sergileyen DP, 1946 genel seçimlerinde CHP’yi iktidardan indirebilmeyi başaramamıştır. Ancak takip eden bir diğer seçim olan 14 Mayıs 1950 genel seçimlerinde basının bir kısmının ve halkın büyük çoğunluğunun desteğini almayı başaran DP tek başına iktidar olmayı bilmiştir. Araştırmamızın konusunu teşkil eden İslamcı basın ise bu süreçte Menderes’e vermiş olduğu desteği ile kayıtlara geçmiştir. Ulusal basının kısmen İslamcı basının ise büyük çoğunluğunun desteğini almayı başaran DP’nin bu başarısının ardında şüphesiz ki güttüğü liberal politikalar ve din hürriyeti kapsamında vermiş olduğu beyanatlar büyük bir rol oynamıştır. CHP Dönemi’nde dini söylem ve eylemlerin laiklik kapsamında süzgeçten geçirilerek bir takım düzenlemelere tabi tutulması, gerek halk gerekse İslamcı basın nezdinde bir bıkkınlık hali yaratmıştır. Oysaki Menderes’in adeta özgürlüklerin timsali bir anlayışla Türk siyasi hayatına atılması, özellikle İslamcı basının bu yönde kendisine tam destek vermesini sağlamıştır.
The Democratic Party, founded on 7 January 1946, is considered to be the party that pushed the Republican People's Party the most during its time in power and received a large proportion of popular support against it. The DP, which was actively opposed to the CHP after its formation in 1946, failed to remove the CHP from power in the 1946 general elections. But the DP, which succeeded in securing the support of some of the press and the vast majority of the public in the May 14, 1950 general election that followed, has known about being in power alone. The Islamist press, which is the subject of our investigation, has been recorded with its support to Menderes in this process. Behind the success of the DP, which managed to gain the support of the majority of the national press in part of the Islamist press, there is no doubt that the liberal policies and religious freedom have played a big role. During the CHP Era, religious discourse and actions were filtered through secularism and subjected to a number of regulations, creating a state of exasperation with both the public and the Islamist press. However, the expulsion of Menderes into Turkish political life with an understanding of freedoms has enabled the Islamist press to give its full support in this direction.
