Analysis of Quality, Reliability and Content of YouTube Videoes on Warfarin Education

Abstract

The objective of this descriptive study was to assess the quality, reliability, and content of videos related to the use of warfarin on YouTube. The study analysed 24 YouTube videos obtained with the keywords "varfarin," "coumadin," and "kumadin" on 1 May 2024. The videos were evaluated using descriptive information, the Quality Criteria for Consumer Health (DISCERN) measurement tool, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) criteria, and the Global Quality Scale (GQS). The data were calculated using descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation analysis. The statistical significance level was set at 0.05. The mean score of the DISCERN criteria was 43.29 ± 13.883, the mean score of the JAMA criteria was 2.50 ± 0.780, the mean score of the GQS was 3.54 ± 1.215, and the reliability level and quality of the videos were determined to be moderate. A correlation analysis was conducted to evaluate the relationship between DISCERN and GQS values and video duration, number of likes, views, and comments. The results demonstrated a strong positive correlation between DISCERN and GQS values and video duration, number of likes, views, and comments. However, no correlation was found between JAMA criteria and video descriptive findings. The quality and reliability of Turkish educational videos on warfarin published on YouTube were evaluated. The findings indicated that the quality and reliability of these videos are moderate. In order to enhance the quality and reliability of these videos and to raise public awareness about health literacy and digital literacy, it is recommended to increase the quality and reliability of these videos.

Varfarin Eğitimine Yönelik YouTube Videolarının Kalite, Güvenirlik ve İçeriğinin Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Tanımlayıcı olarak planlanan bu çalışmanın amacı YouTube’da bulunan varfarin kullanımı ile ilişkili videoların kalite, güvenirlik ve içerik bakımından değerlendirilmesidir. Çalışmada 01.05.2024 tarihinde “varfarin” “coumadin” ve “kumadin” anahtar kelimeleri ile elde edilen 24 YouTube videosunun analizi yapılmıştır. Videoları değerlendirmek için tanımlayıcı bilgiler, Tüketici Sağlığı Kalite Kriterleri (DISCERN) ölçüm aracı, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) kriterleri, Küresel Kalite Skalası (GQS) kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler tanımlayıcı istatistik ve Spearman korelasyon analizi ile hesaplanmıştır. İstatistiksel anlamlılık düzeyi 0,05 olarak kabul edilmiştir. DISCERN kriterleri ortalama puanı 43,29±13,883, JAMA kriterleri ortalama puanı 2,50±,780, GQS puan ortalaması 3,54±1,215 olup videoların güvenirlik düzeyi ve kalitesi orta olarak belirlenmiştir. DISCERN ve GQS değerleri ile video süresi, beğenilme, izlenme ve yorum sayısı korelasyonları değerlendirildiğinde pozitif yönlü güçlü bir ilişki bulunmuştur. JAMA kriterleri ile video tanımlayıcı bulguları arasında ilişki saptanmamıştır. YouTube’da yayınlanan varfarin ile ilgili Türkçe eğitim videolarının kalite ve güvenirliği orta düzeydedir. Bu videoların etkili olması için kalitenin artırılması ve güvenilirliğin sağlanması, sağlık okuryazarlığı ve dijital okuryazarlık konularında toplumun bilinçlendirilmesi önerilmektedir.
