Institutional Discourse or Institutionalisation of Discourse

Öz

We see discourse is institutionalised in patient-doctor, student-teacher interactions, company meetings, workplaces, courtrooms, wedding ceremonies, customer representative meetings, political speeches, meetings of non-governmental organisations, public institutions and organisations, legal/illegal organisations. The language used in these environments where discourse is institutionalised carries a number of different interactional features from daily social conversations. Especially foreign linguists have made institutions or other organised structures the focus of discourse studies since 1960s. In Turkey, except for a few studies at the article level, not enough attention has been paid to the contexts in which discourse is institutionalised. In the studies that have been conducted, there is a blurring of the field and limitations of the concepts of institutional discourse and institutionalisation of discourse due to definitions of institution, institutional and institutionalisation. Institutional discourse and institutionalisation of discourse are not the same term. While institutional discourse emerges in institutions where discourse is institutionalised, the institutionalisation of discourse is not a feature unique to institutions.

Kurumsal Söylem ya da Söylemin Kurumsallaşması

Öz

Hasta- doktor, öğrenci-öğretmen etkileşimleri, şirket toplantıları, iş yerleri, mahkeme salonları, nikah merasimleri, müşteri temsilcisi görüşmeleri, siyasi konuşmalar, sivil toplum kuruluşlarının toplantıları, kamu kurum ve kuruluşları, legal ya da illegal örgütlerde söylemin kurumsallaştığını görmekteyiz. Söylemin kurumsallaştığı bu tür ortamlarda kullanılan dil, günlük sosyal konuşmalardan bir dizi farklı etkileşim özellikleri taşımaktadır. Özellikle yabancı dilbilimciler, 1960’lardan sonra kurum ya da diğer örgütlü yapıları, söylem çalışmalarının odağı haline getirmiştir. Ülkemizde ise makale düzeyinde yapılan birkaç çalışma dışında söylemin kurumsallaştığı bağlamlara henüz yeterince ilgi gösterilmemiştir. Yapılan çalışmalarda da kurum, kurumsal ve kurumsallaşma tanımlarından kaynaklı kurumsal söylem (institutional discourse) ve söylemin kurumsallaşması kavramlarının alanı ve sınırlılıkları hakkında bulanıklaşma söz konusudur. Halbuki kurumsal söylem (institutional discourse) ile söylemin kurumsallaşması aynı kavram değildir. Kurumsal söylem, söylemin kurumsallaştığı kurumlarda ortaya çıkarken, söylemin kurumsallaşması ise yalnızca kurumlara has bir özellik değildir.
