Evaluation of a Standard Residential Building in Türkiye in Terms of Yes-Tr Certification: A Credit Analysis Based on an Existing Building
Abstract
The construction sector, which is responsible for a significant share of global energy consumption and carbon emissions, has increasingly turned to green building certification systems within the scope of the search for sustainable solutions. In this context, YeS-TR (the National Green Certification System), developed by considering Türkiye’s local dynamics and climatic data, aims to evaluate the environmental performance of buildings through objective criteria. This study aims to examine in detail the main module headings of the YeS-TR certification system through a standard building sample representing the existing housing stock in Türkiye and to conduct a credit analysis assessment of the current condition of the building. Within the scope of the study, the role of buildings in reducing the adverse effects of climate change was analyzed, and climate-resilient building design criteria were identified within the framework of green building certification systems. Accordingly, resilient building indicators that play a critical role in mitigating this process, the concept of green buildings, and the scope of the certification system were examined in detail. In the research, the criteria and sub-criteria of the YeS-TR certification system were analyzed and evaluated in line with expert opinions obtained from a civil engineer, an architect, and a mechanical engineer. The findings reveal, through concrete data, the potential of existing buildings constructed using conventional techniques to obtain YeS-TR certification and identify the categories in which improvements are needed. As a result, the study discusses the technical interventions required for the sustainability-oriented transformation of the existing housing stock and offers strategic recommendations for the wider dissemination of the local certification system.
