Bir kitabın okuyucular tarafından algılanması büyük ölçüde yanmetinsel ögelerin sunumuna bağlıdır. Yanmetinsel materyallerin rolü oldukça önemlidir çünkü bir kitabın okuyucular tarafından alımlanma biçimi üzerinde çok önemli bir etkiye sahiptirler. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Elif Şafak'ın İngilizce romanı Three Daughters of Eve (2016) ve Türkçe çevirisi Havva’nın Üç Kızı (2016) adlı eserinde yer alan yanmetinsel ögeleri çözümlemek ve yanmetinsel materyallerin sunumunun okuyucuların algısını ve erek eserin algılanmasını nasıl etkilediğini ortaya koymaktır. Gérard Genette'in (1997) yanmetin kavramına dayanan karşılaştırmalı yanmetinsel irdeleme, özellikle çevre metinsel (peritextual) ögelere odaklanmakta ve bunların erek eserin kültürel dolaşımında ve algılanmasında oynadığı rolü sorgulamaktır. Bu bağlamda çalışma, yanmetinleri metnin anlamlandırılmasını yönlendiren ve metnin edebiyat dizgesi içindeki konumunu etkileyen söylemsel araçlar olarak ele almaktadır. Çalışmada, Three Daughters of Eve (2016) romanının çevirisinin, yanmetinsel ögeler (parateksler) aracılığıyla sunuluş biçiminin, eserin çeviri olarak algılanmasını nasıl farklılaştırdığı ve okur açısından ‘özgün’ bir Türkçe eser izlenimi yaratıp yaratmadığı sorgulanacaktır. Bu doğrultuda yanmetinlerin, çeviri metnin kökenine ilişkin bilgiyi görünür kılan ya da görünmezleştiren stratejik araçlar olarak nasıl kullanıldığı incelenecektir. Öte yandan, söz konusu yanmetinsel ögelerin erek okuyucunun algısını nasıl değiştirebileceği ve esere ilişkin yorumlama süreçlerini nasıl biçimlendirdiği de irdelenecektir.
The perception of a book by readers largely depends on the presentation of paratextual elements. The role of paratextual materials is quite significant because they have a crucial impact on how a book is received by readers. The aim of this study is to analyze the paratextual elements in Elif Şafak's English novel Three Daughters of Eve (2016) and its Turkish translation Havva’nın Üç Kızı (2016), and to reveal how the presentation of paratextual materials affects readers' perception and the perception of the target work. Based on Gérard Genette's (1997) concept of paratext, this comparative paratextual analysis focuses particularly on peritextual elements and questions the role they play in the cultural circulation and perception of the target work. In this context, the study treats paratexts as discursive tools that guide the interpretation of the text and influence its position within the literary system. This study will examine how the presentation of the translation of the novel Three Daughters of Eve (2016) through paratextual elements alters the perception of the work as a translation and whether or not it creates the impression for the reader that the novel was originally written in Turkish. In this context, the study will examine how paratexts are used as strategic tools to make visible or invisible the information about the origin of the translated text. Furthermore, it will explore how these paratextual elements can alter the target reader's perception and shape their interpretation processes regarding the novel.
