<p>Mark Twain’s The Complete Diaries of Adam and Eve contains distinctive characteristics and alternative ideas in terms of gender representation considering the patriarchal discourse of the period. In the novel, Eve is portrayed as curious, intelligent and hard-working. Her role in discovering fire and the rules of grammar and her skill in naming the objects all help deconstruct patriarchal discourse. Considering these characteristics of the work, this study, conducted at the intersection of descriptive and feminist translation studies, comparatively examines the source text and its five different Turkish translations, which either support and deconstruct patriarchal discourse, via Von Flotow’s macro and micro feminist translation strategies. It is argued that the reasons for the differences between the five translations in terms of gender representation can be interpreted as a reflection of social changes rather than individual preferences. It is expected that addressing the socio-cultural backgrounds that differ between periods in Turkey, is important for positioning the work within the target culture, thus contributing to the field of feminist translation studies.</p></trans-abstract>
