Surface Treatments and Bond Strength in CAD/CAM Ceramics: A Bibliometric Analysis
Abstract
Aims: The aim of this bibliometric analysis was to evaluate the global research trends, publication patterns, and key scientific contributors in the field of surface treatments and bond strength of CAD/CAM ceramics over the last two decades..
Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was searched using a predefined keyword strategy to retrieve publications from 2000–2024. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 845 articles were included in the analysis. VOSviewer and Biblioshiny software were used for network visualization and quantitative bibliometric assessments.
Results: Publication output showed a steady upward trend, with an average annual growth rate of 12.4%. China, Brazil, and Türkiye were the most productive countries. The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry and Dental Materials were the most cited journals. Keyword co-occurrence analysis identified four thematic clusters: glass-ceramic bonding, zirconia surface modification, advanced surface treatments, and clinical/material characterization.
Conclusion: Research on surface treatments and bond strength of CAD/CAM ceramics has grown substantially over the past 25 years. Although in vitro evidence is extensive, long-term clinical trials are needed to support evidence-based practice. Future studies should prioritize bioactive surface modifications and simplified bonding protocols.
