An Ancient Greek Myth In Arabic Theater: King Oedipus And The Changes He Underwent

Öz

Ahl al-Kahf, written by Tawfik al-Hakim, became the first theatre piece in Arabic literature to derive its plot from mythology. Following Ahl al-Kahf, which is a work of Islamic belief, al-Hakim took on the Oedipus mythology with the aim of uniting Ancient Greece and the East under one roof. In the same year, Ali Ahmed Baketheer also interpreted Oedipus, and the legend became part of Arabic theatre. This study will delve into the transition of Sophocles’ theatre piece, King Oedipus, to the Western world. Subsequently, the journey of its adaptation into Arabic literature within the context of Islamic belief and culture through two writers will be explored, along with the changes undergone by the play in this process.

Arap Tiyatrosunda Antik Bir Yunan Miti: Kral Oedipus ve Uğradığı Değişimler (Tevfîk el-Hakîm ve Ali Ahmed Bâkesîr Örneği)

Tevfîk el-Hakîm’in kaleminden çıkan Ehlu’l-Kehf, Arap edebiyatında olay örgüsünü mitolojiden alan ilk tiyatro olmuştur. İslam inancının bir meyvesi olan Ehlu’l-Kehf’in bir adım sonrasında el-Hakîm, Antik Yunan ile Doğu’yu tek çatı altında birleştirmek amacıyla Oedipus mitolojisini ele almıştır. Ali Ahmed Bâkesîr de aynı yıl Oedipus’u yorumlamış ve efsane, Arap tiyatrosunun bir parçası haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Sophokles’in bir tiyatrosu olan Kral Oedipus’un Batı dünyasına geçişi ele alınacaktır. Daha sonra iki yazar üzerinden İslam inancı ve kültürü içinde Arap edebiyatına aktarılma serüveni ve bu süreçte tiyatronun uğradığı değişimler değerlendirilecektir.
