In this article, it will be examined why Nietzsche (1844-1900) considered selfishness as a virtue worthy of praise as opposed to altruism. In the 19th century, Nietzsche harshly criticized the Western value system as an obstacle to humanity and life. According to him, with the exaltation of vulgarities such as love for neighbor, mercy, compassion, equality, etc., the magnificence and uniqueness of man, the richness and plurality of life were sacrificed. Western values highlighted people's weaknesses, inadequacies and powerlessness, valued pain and pity, despised the body and its desires, gave importance to suffering in the face of success and wealth, and undermined creativity. For example, a value such as love for neighbor advised people to give up themselves for the benefit of the community. It was said that loving “I” was bad and thinking about “you” was good. Such a situation took the person away from himself / herself and made him / her unable to tolerate himself / herself. A person no longer loved herself / himself, did not see herself / himself as valuable, moved away from herself / himself, sanctified the "you" and took refuge in “you”. However, for Nietzsche, a morality without the passion for "I" was rotten. For this reason, love for neighbors was one of the primary values that needed to be changed.
Bu makalede Nietzsche’nin (1844-1900) özgeciliğe karşı bencilliği neden bir erdem olarak övgüye layık gördüğü incelenecektir. 19.yüzyılda Nietzsche Batı değer sistemini insan ve yaşam önünde engel teşkil ettiği için sert bir dille eleştirmektedir. Ona göre komşu sevgisi, merhamet, şefkat, eşitlik… gibi bayağılıkların yüceltilmesiyle birlikte insanın ihtişamı ve biricikliği, hayatın zenginliği ve çoğulluğu feda edilmektedir. Batının değerleri insanların zayıflıklarını, yetersizliklerini ve güçsüzlüklerini ön plana çıkarmakta, acıyı ve acımayı değerli görmekte, bedeni ve onun isteklerini hakir görmekte, başarıya ve zenginliğe karşı çile çekmeyi önemsemekte, yaratıcılığı baltalamaktadır. Mesela komşu sevgisi gibi bir değer, insana topluluk çıkarı için kendisinden vazgeçmesini öğütlemektedir. “Ben”i sevmenin kötü, “sen”i düşünmenin iyi olduğu söylenmektedir. Böylesi bir durum insanı kendisinden alıp götürmekte ve kendisine tahammül edemez hale getirmektedir. İnsan artık kendini sevmez, kendisini değerli görmez, kendinden uzaklaşır, “sen”i kutsallaştırır ve “sen”e sığınır. Oysa Nietzsche için “ben” tutkusunun olmadığı bir ahlak çürümüştür. Bu nedenle değişmesi gereken değerlerin başında komşu sevgisi gelmektedir.
